So there hasn't been much talk about the new map's nether hub, at least not that I've seen. I'm currently in charge of spawn but it's a tad hard to actually plan spawn without knowing what the nether hub will be like. So I figured I might as well start on the nether hub and maybe I'll get ideas of what to do for spawn later on. Since someone had set up a shop area in the nether hub I thought it would be a cool idea to turn the nether hub into a shopping district.
iSpinny and I talked a bit about a few ideas and I think we both loved the idea of doing a hub like in the picture above. In the overworld at spawn there would be four portals, each leading to a different area of the nether hub shopping area. In the middle of the nether hub we could have a staircase that leads down to even more of a shopping area. In total there would be five areas for players to set up shops. There still can be shops in spawn as well. Hopefully this will allow more players to have shops. Also in the little towers in the middle there would be red beacons, just because that would be cool. Lmfao.
I think it would be cool if the middle of the nether hub would be a hangout area, along with the spiral staircase down. This would obviously have to be a group project, I would not be doing this by myself. I'll probably work on spawn while everyone else works on the nether hub. Either way, give me some ideas and your thoughts on this. I'd love to know who all would like to do this as well. c:

Wow what a great idea! Gotta give the genius that came up with that idea a sticker for sure.

Is the roof of that open to the nether roof? ( like is there a massive hole in the roof, because i would be happy to do that!

Lmao that specific build was built in the overworld I think, and that's why there's no roof. I don't care if there's a roof or not really, if you have a way that isn't considered cheating to do it then that's alright with me.

it's either growing trees that break bedrock, which takes ages. Or drop dragon eggs when the chuck is passive (on the edge of unloaded chunks), if you got allot off eggs it's doable.

We have a sufficient amount of eggs to make this happen. Good thing it's a part of the game! Trees would take too long.

Maybe I'm being silly, but how will the players' bases be connected to the hub?
If at first you don't succeed, give up.

-> Shopping area Nether Hub <- We can do this both "ye olden times" with wooden stalls in a field off grass, making use of the path blocks, with some castle like walls and some decorations like a fountain in a central area, custom trees, etc. Or we could go modern and give it an actual Super Market feeling with a shiny floor pattern and stores covering the walls whilst the hallways are decorated with flowerbeds and benches (fountain again an option) The first is my personal favourite, but that's just because I'm not good at modern builds But I don't mind a challenge, I even tried out some floor patterns (I feel this is quite important as it is essential to stop spawning in the hub) These are 2 simple but clean patterns that aren't to "noisy" to cover a large area and the colour scheme is basic for a "clean" feel to it. The glass on top gives it some dimension and stops the spawning. Was thinking of slabbing first with stone slabs and.. well..quarts. But I think polished andersite and polished diorite are more available to cover a large area. We can still use quarts for the actual building though. Bewaren

I don't want to push my opinion forward.. but I rather do/explore/experience then wait. Last night I started clearing an area right under the nether roof for the hub. That was all I planned to do... But then I kinda get the builders itch so I looked up some wall designs and made this: it's a repeatable pattern that can be used to wall off an area, or just make like a small fort-like building in the centre to house the portal to the overworld hub. the Area that I marked can be removed to add a hallway behind it or even place a portal in it. This design has a walkway on top as well.

I like the original idea of shopping districts in the nether, but I have a few thoughts about it I wanted to share. The design of the actual hub on the picture can be improved in my opinion. I like the overall design, but there's a few things that jump out at me when looking at it. The netherrack used in the floors for example could be obsidian or red clay or something instead - because lets be honest, no one really likes the texture of netherrack. I would also suggest a design with a railing, since I have a feeling that navigating those roads will be incredibly dangerous. Especially since it seems like this area would be prime ghast spawning places (so so so much open room). I do like the "bridge" decorations - plus they double as a railing. The "volcanos" in the center are pretty cool too, altho I personally think a mix of coal blocks and obsidian would look cooler for a volcano. I'm also curious: where would the actual areas for shops be? Are they easy to see/do they connect to each other so you can go through the "streets" in one go? Because if not, then how can we advertise our shops so other people know they exist? On my old server this was a legit problem that caused a lot of shops to be dead, which meant the economy was very poor.

The central hub is in use as of now! There is a drop (with slime @ the bottom) to get back to the old "hub" (read as: netherrack cave). I'm finishing the central place up with some corners to my previous mentioned walls and then the digging will begin. Starting off with a 50 block radius around the building dig it down to make the center a floating island, fill with lava and glass, design bridges and then the commercial area's can get started! This does NOT mean it will be done in a few days, the digging will happen in parts as I want to avoid ghast spawning (5x4x5 area, any light level). Most will also be slabbed or otherwise build upon to avoid as much zombie pigmen spawning as possible. As for now: I NEED BRICKS! stone and cobblestone also welcome (it's the nether, enough lava to bake me some stone if need be) so place drop some by if you have excess laying around being useless. Dune out! (will edit a screencap in later, I need sleep now (1:26AM))
