How we would upgrade to 1.11.2 without the mod upgrading? - We would have to load all the chunks in the border manually, in spectator mode. and then remove the mod and load the server in 1.11.2
Pro's of upgrading: - Fireworks will be able to power elytra's
- Woodland Mansions ( we would have to go out of the border perimeters, as the map would have been loaded in 1.10.2 )
- Shulker Boxes
- Observer Block
- Exploration maps
- More Things you can use as fuel and smelt in furnaces
- Llamas
- Random End portals taking you back to the main island in the End
Con's of upgrading: - Cursed Enchantments
- Problems with enchanting e.g. on the bow you can not get mending and infinity
- There will not be any Woodland Mansions Within the perimeter (they are so rare it may not even be one if we waited )
- Entity Limit
- A few farms will be broken
- A very slim chance of certain people being spuds and losing the map
I personally think it is better to stay in 1.10.2 until the mod has been released but i know some other people are eager to get into the new update.

So, I'd honestly really like to upgrade, the new stuff would be great to get, but I also don't really mind staying in the current version. So, either way is fine with me.

To me it would be smart to wait until the mods upgrade comes out, and then update to the newest version of minecraft.

Either way we will probably have to load the chunks manually, because when the mod upgrades to 1.11, 1.12 will be released so i think it would be smarter to manually load the chunks and then upgrade to 1.11 and then in the future 1.112 without relying on the mod to upgrade.

We shouldn't need to load all the chunks because the terrain generation 'code' hasn't changed (I don't think so anyway) between the two Mod versions. So, it should be reading the seed the same... but, I guess it can't really hurt to load everything first. That way, if any seed issues arise, at lease it'll only be along the boarder.

I don't know about now, but when I managed my own server, jumping from version to version was always a pain and consumed quite a bit of my time and patience.

Upgrading the server version without the mod may result in chunk errors. That's just how Minecraft is. That is why I am hesitant in upgrading right now. I would rather wait until the mod itself has updated to the current Minecraft version.
If at first you don't succeed, give up.

I think we should atleast set a date where, if the mod hasnt updated by that point we update by loading all the chunks, which i suggest we do anyway as it is a mod and it will probably cause chunk errors aswell. Better sooner than later i personally think
