On the topic of tweaking the settings for the new map generation, I wanted to add that doing so might cause a lot of annoyances for players already experiencing lag on the server as it is now. If they can't go through the current spawn without lagging, having an amplified or even just a tweaked map to play on will do the exact same thing because it puts a bigger strain on the pc because of how Minecraft loads and renders. Which will possibly cause some to stop playing after a while since lagging can be extremely annoying to deal with. I've been blessed with a good laptop for gaming and have little problems with that myself, but I know playing with an amplified world will be frustrating. I tried in single player before and it didn't work that well, even with my beast of a gaming laptop. Also, I love the bountiful biome mod and have played with it a lot (among lots of other mods too), but Sunflower Kingdom is a vanilla server and that is one of the main reasons I applied. Adding mods to the server would make me personally very sad, even if the mod is super cool. But I really like how everything here is dealt with by voting and listening to everybody's thoughts and ideas, and if the majority decides to tweak the settings or add a mod, I will of course happily respect the decision. - Tene

Several players have suggested that we tweak the next map so that the generation is different such as different terrain levels. There is also the idea of using completely customised map generation as shown in the video below. What does everyone think about this? Should we tweak the map generation? Should we do something to the map like in the video?

Quite a few of the active players in discord have been talking and we've all decided that we would enjoy doing a mod that only affects the generation of the world. The mod would only affect how the world looks and generates. There is only one issue with this plan and that is that we would have to downgrade a version for the mod we're thinking of using. We would set up a border of 5k so that later when the update for the mod comes out we can explore the new chunks and not have them too far from where we all are. www.minecraftforum.net/forums/mapping-and-modding/minecraft-mods/2524489-realistic-terrain-generation-rtg-realistic-biomes

Their page says they are trying to push out the update for sometime in feburary if we stick to the vote of leave the reset till march that gives a high chance the mod will be out with the 1.11.2 update Though a question id like to ask is why limit the world to 5kx5k if we are using a world gen mod it personally makes no sense you give beautiful terrain and then limit what we can see or build in. I get for lag and keeping us close. Im hyped about coming back straight right as a reset and hopefully a custom map

Im hyped about coming back straight right as a reset and hopefully a custom map I know it sucks to have the border at 5k, but it's just so that when the update does come out we will have the new chunks in the 1.11.2 version, since it's coming out so soon it would be stupid for us to have the border at 10k and have 5k of land be chunks we could've been using for the newer version. If that makes sense. And none of us want to wait for the mod to have it's update, so we just want to downgrade to the older version until the new one comes out then we will upgrade again.

I have some questions, most of this is over my head a bit. First, Tene says it will cause lag. What exactly will cause lag? There's a lot of ideas being tossed around, and that's cool, but the poll really doesn't seem to cover them all. I personally wouldn't mind a mod that made MC more interesting to look at. Custom trees, hills, whatever....to me that is really just a server wide resource pack. As long as it doesn't change the gameplay/amounts of ores etc. I'm 100% not for a mod that increases one thing here and another there. That's too much imo. Can we vote to wait to vote until the newer version comes out? Rosie, you kind of lost me. Are you saying we can't have a 10k border if we use it now, or that we can't use the update later if we use it all now?

Shes saying they decided that they didnt want a 10k boarder only a 5 till the newest mod update it wont lag the server maybe slight client side with a shit ton of nuw floating things or big mass amount of block etc Realisticly it changes nothing other than the surface of the overworld and makes it prettier

First, Tene says it will cause lag. What exactly will cause lag? The lag I was talking about was mostly concerning using an amplified world, since it adds a lot of blocks for Minecraft to spawn in. There is a bit of concern about a mod too, but if it's the one shown in the video then it seems like there will be a minimal extra strain on computers when playing with it, since it uses vanilla blocks. It's the same problem I can see again really, it adds many more blocks than normal world generation (more blocks = more to load in and more to keep loaded while running for the game) and that is obviously harder to render, but it shouldn't be too bad for a decent pc to run. At best you'll see no change in FPS when exploring/playing and at worst you'll see a good drop. But as the guy says in the video, that mod doesn't seem to add too much extra lag for the player. I can't say for sure tho, since I have only tried the bountiful biomes mod (that adds custom blocks and trees and buildings to the world) and not the one in the video. Hope that helped a little ^^ ps. I might have to mention I am no expert and my thoughts are only based on experiences with a lot of modded minecraft vs vanilla minecraft.

Can we back it out if it sucks? Or are we stuck with it for months? Personally, resetting is growing old and I don't want to do it again in a month because a few sunflowers don't like the new toy.

Also, if we vote it in this time, can we vote it in/out next time too? Or are we voting for a permanent new addition to the server?

Instead of relying on other's opinion of the situation with terrain generation with the new map, I decided to download the mod myself and look around. What I found was amazing. The world looked so smooth, so crisp, and so much better than Vanilla. Just check out some of these screenshots. It also ONLY CHANGES how the biomes generate, not changing the biome or creating totally new biomes which makes it better for converting and updating as there are no changes. imgur.com/a/g1GSsI also found out some things when looking around some worlds: - I found that no temples would spawn, Jungle, Desert and possible Guardian temples. Although Im not too sure to what extent they spawn (or dont spawn in this case) - Some people are worried that it will cause lag, From my short experience it didn't cause any at all. Except from a little bit of extra RAM usage which I believe would only be server side maybe? It didn't effect my fps either as it is full blocks that are generated, so basically there is no real downside to lag while using this mod (IMO and In my experience anyways) - The only real issue would be activating this on a server as it requires Forge and it is a mod after all. However ONLY the server would need it installed. It is also only in 1.10.2 and lower so one suggestion of enabling this on a server would be to Use the mod and generate the world in 1.10.2 , generating the area up to the border (using a plugin or such) and then simply update the server to 1.11 as it makes no changes to Biomes and mob generation. I suggest everyone to download the mod and look around themselves as it is really too good. files.minecraftforge.net/maven/net/minecraftforge/forge/index_1.10.2.htmlwww.minecraftforum.net/forums/mapping-and-modding/minecraft-mods/2524489-realistic-terrain-generation-rtg-realistic-biomes

Sunflowererers! I think that if we have a small border in place for the first several weeks we could remove the mod and go back to vanilla generation if players don't like it. Kind of like a trial run. However I haven't looked into this mod much so far.
